What to Do Once Your Braces Come Off?

A majority of people globally need to wear braces for at least 18 months in their life. Due to wearing braces for such a long time, the chances are that you will forget how it ever felt to be without them. The feeling of having wires on your teeth makes the sensation almost impossible to get over once you have to be without them.

Here are some of the things that you will experience when you get your braces off:

Calluses:

  1. These occur on the inside of your lips, especially in the areas where the skin is comparatively sensitive. When you have your braces on, you don’t generally notice them. They come to your attention, once they are gone. These take time and eventually will heal.
  2. Change in Appearance: When you first get your braces off, you will see your new, even, and sparkling smile like never before. Because for the longest time, you would have seen crooked teeth and later a smile hidden with braces. So now, when you see your new face, it might appear distinctively to you.
  3. Brushing and Flossing: Brushing and flossing is a challenge when you have braces on. Once they are off, you are able to brush and floss much easier. Your oral health care is kept up much better, and you are able to take care of each facet of taking care of your teeth.
  4. Discoloration: It is one of the major concerns for most of the people who wear braces. Once you get your braces off, it is very important to get regular cleaning done so that you can get the actual shade of your teeth back.
  5. Wearing a Retainer: Wearing a retainer cannot be stressed enough after braces. It is important to follow the timeline your dentist has given you to wear retainers. If possible, you can wear them even longer. Not wearing retainers can have an incorrigible impact on your teeth. In most cases, it can lead to either the deformities of the teeth coming back again or, in the worst case scenario losing teeth altogether.
Therefore, of all the things that you need to do post wearing braces is to wear retainers for the longest time possible.
  6. Consecutive Treatments: Getting braces alone is not enough for the smile that you want. Once you get them off, there are additional dental procedures that you might need to undertake in order to get the results that you were waiting for. These could include partial braces, spacers, etc.
  7. Further Settling: Even if you have worn braces or then taken your retainers seriously, the chances are that your teeth will still shift and change their position with time. So be prepared for these gradual changes.

Getting braces could be life-changing for your smile and could give you even, straight, and perfect teeth. But the journey with them and once you remove them is a completely different ball-game together. It is important to accept the differences it can make to your face and the post-brace dental care that you need to seek thereon. We hope that now you will be able to upkeep that beautiful smile without any hassles.
