Dental hygiene tips for healthy teeth & gums

How often should you change your dentures?

Dentures should be removed every night, cleaned thoroughly, and placed in liquid denture cleaner or water overnight. In addition to allowing your gum tissue to rest and heal, this keeps your dentures free of stains and bacteria build-up, thereby extending their lifetime. You should be taking them out at night after eating. The change of dentures depends on many situations. Explore them one by one.

Dentures Are Loose
Your dentures should fit perfectly in your mouth without any movement. Consult your dentist if you feel your dentures are loose or moving around. Another reason your dentures don’t fit properly in your mouth is that the actual dentures have worn down. As the deterioration continues, it is time for the replacement.

Your dentures are broken, stained, or weak
With improper care and wear and tear that come with age, your dentures can be weakened, broken, and stained. It is important to periodically inspect your dentures for signs of deterioration or staining to prevent further damage. Dentures should also be checked at their base. The base must be replaced if it has been bent or warped.

The Dentures are Painful and Discomforting
When you first get dentures, you may experience some discomfort. When your dentures are broken, warped, or ill-fitted, they will irritate your gums, tongue, and interior of your mouth. It is painful and can lead to scratching and pinching until bleeding occurs. It may become so painful that continuing to wear dentures is impossible.

Dentures Are Old
It is important to consider the fit, look, and feel of your dentures and their age when you need to replace them. It’s recommended to replace your dentures every five to seven years, even if you don’t experience any of the other signs of distress.

If you’d like to restore your smile to an appealing and functional state, dentures can be an excellent option, but you will have to have them replaced at some point. For more information on dentures, schedule a consultation with the dentist to get the best help for your oral issues.
